Currie Group was showing the Canon Colorado M-series, with business unit manager Paul Whitehead explaining the benefits of its exclusive UVgel ink technology.

He said, “There is no technology like UV gel in the marketplace. Its formulation enables a whole host of different applications, on a wide range of substrates. It takes the best of breed from the other technologies of UV, eco solvent, latex, and puts it into a single list singular system. So you get the advantages of instant use after printing, low heat so able to print on the whole gamut of media, and no odour or environmental issues.”

White said that the Colorado M-series white gives the ability with the single singular ink to print both gloss and matte, or a combination of two in the same print, the Flexfinish.

He said, “So things like wall coverings, embellished labels and all those sorts of things can be all produced without requirement of expensive clears and spot colours. It can be all done with the CMYK and now with the introduction of white, which is treated like CMYK, there's no heavy pigment so there's no extra maintenance or printing, no extra cleaning.

“The colour consistency is one that whether you print today, an hour later, next week, or next year, once you hit a colour you'll always hit it.”

The Colorado also has an acoustic nozzle detection system and is constantly monitoring itself, which Whitehead says means you can leave it printing unattended overnight.

He said, “If I'm a commercial printer looking to get into this display the Colorado is undemanding from a skillset perspective. You don't need to be a skilled operator to get a professional result, as it is all driven from the file. And it will handle a great range of applications.”
