The owners of award-winning Kwik Kopy Norwood, SA, are at drupa, and have just ordered an Elitron digital cutting unit to drive diversification and grow the business further.

The new flatbed Elitron Spark C has been ordered off the stand at drupa from local representative Currie Group. It is highly specified, with the Seeker and Video Projection option.

The Spark C will be used to enable the company’s drive into packaging, and bring display work in-house. It will cut print produced on the company’s two HP Latex printers.

Shane Skinner, co-owner of the business with wife Bronwyn, said, “To go to the packaging market, you need the best equipment. The engineering on the Elitron will give us the quality the market demands and the features mean the productivity will not leave us waiting. Similarly, all our display work will now be produced in-house.”

Bronwyn Skinner said, “We outsource a fair amount of cutting at the moment, the new Elitron will mean we can bring all that in-house and have complete control over time and quality. We already have a small cutter which handles a limited range of media, but for many products, including aluminium panels for example, we will now be able to bring back in-house.”

Kwik Kopy Norwood has 11 staff, and was initially established by Shane’s parents 30 years ago, bought by Shane and Bronwyn and a business partner 16 years ago, with the Skinners taking full control last year. Shane said, “We have always had a strategy of being at the forefront of new technology, and it has always worked for us. Good clients like to know we are investing in good equipment to produce their jobs.”

The business has had a relationship with Currie Group stretching back 18 years, and is one of the few franchise print shops in the country to run HP Indigo in-house. Bronwyn said, “Currie Group has always looked after us, and supplied us with equipment that has helped enable us to go to market with confidence. We have no doubt the Elitron will perform to the same level.”

Paul Whitehead, ANZ business unit manager, sign and display at Currie Group said, “The new Elitron for Kwik Kopy Norwood is an extension of an excellent long-term relationship. It will enable significant workflow efficiencies for the company.”
